Vorarlberg’s considerable and numerous ski regions have made a name for themselves as prestigious winter sports destinations, enticing skiers and snowboarders in droves to this little land in the very west of Austria. The large ski areas around the Arlberg with kilometers of well-prepared slopes in all degrees of difficulty dominate the winter sports holiday market in Vorarlberg is the westernmost state in Austria, bordering Switzerland and Germany and the Bodensee. Our trip began in the small village of Schwarzenberg, population 1790. My lodgings were the oldest hotel in town, the Hotel Gastof Hirschen Schwarzenberg .
